In Defence of Pleasure
5 Jan – 15 Feb 2019
In Defence of Pleasure is an installation work which consists of suspended phallic-looking resin casted sculptures. Most of them bear strips of anonymous monologues submitted by women. The artist’s goal in creating this work is to encourage women to express more freely their inner thoughts on sexuality. Being raised in a conservative Chinese family, she has experienced restrictions and taboos of many kinds imposed upon womenfolks. Women were forbidden to share freely matters concerning their own sexuality and female pleasure unlike the menfolks. Thus, this work involuntarily breaks the silence and lends a necessary awareness in an increasing liberal society with its own unique hallmark.
